Athletics Aloysians Club enjoyed a proud weekend at the Malta National Championships held at the Marsa track, with several athletes delivering standout performances and personal bests to fly the club’s flag high.
Raquela Calleja (picture) was a standout performer in the U18 category. She claimed the silver medal in the 100m after winning Final B with an impressive personal best of 13.08s, improving on her 13.20s PB set in Round 1.
In the 200m, Calleja continued her strong form, clocking another PB of 27.12s to clinch another silver medal.
She also delivered a solid showing in the long jump, finishing second – silver medal – in the U18 category with a best leap of 4.65m.
Calleja capped off her championships by contributing to a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay, teaming up with three athletes from Żurrieq Wolves to finish in 53.13s.
All four Aloysians who competed in the men’s 100m advanced to Final B, showing great consistency across the board.
Saleh Najem placed third in Final B with 11.84s, equalling his PB. Gianluca Lia clocked 12.00s, Andre Camilleri followed in 12.09s and Aiden Xuereb finished in 12.14s, having earlier set a new PB of 12.08s in Round 1.
The club welcomed a new athlete to the competitive scene, with Aydin Schembri making his debut in the Shot Put, achieving a solid 8.23m in his first-ever competition.
In the U16 category, Andrew Carabez took part in the 200m race as an ‘out-of-competition’ athlete and impressed with a swift 24.15s, setting a strong personal best.
